40 piggeries exposed so far: we've closed 2, with 38 still open. Know of one near you? Let us know.
Bungowannah is a small-medium piggery situated on the outskirts of Albury NSW, owned by Rivalea Australia, with industry-standard farrowing crates and sow stalls.
Many dead piglets were found; a significant number of those deaths were caused by overlay, where the sow lies on top of and crushes the piglet due to the confines of the farrowing crate.
Sows were found with pressure wounds and various conditions on their teats; one sow's teat had been torn completely open. Other sows were covered in flies.
Rivalea decided 7 years ago to get rid of all of their sow stalls, yet clearly they have not done so.
Bungowannah Piggery was the fourth to be exposed as part of Aussie Farms' response to the pig industry's self-declared "National Bacon Week" 2014.
